English support and tax-free are shown only where we've confirmed them. Many Kappabashi shops do offer tax-free — ask at the register (passport required).

Iidaya bills itself as a “super” specialist cooking-tool shop, and the shelves bear it out: next to the everyday things are tools made for one job and nothing else. A few are the shop’s own design, among them the Ever Peeler and the Ever Oroshi grater.

The shop is straightforward about language on its own site. Staff say they are not strong in anything but Japanese, and that they will reach for translation apps and serve you with everything they have. Come with a photo of what you are after, or point at it on the shelf, and it will go quickly.
