Sato Sample has been making replica food samplesStartlingly realistic models of dishes, handmade by craftspeople rather than moulded from cheap plastic. Kappabashi is the place to watch them made, or make your own.— Kappabashi notes since 1925. The ready-made range alone runs to about 2,500 kinds, and the shop will make one to order to match a dish of your own, from a single piece. There is also a hands-on session in which you arrange a plate yourself.
Samples are hired out for television and magazine shoots as well, though not to private individuals.
