Hashitou Honten (はし藤本店)
HASHITOU — Kappabashi, Tokyo
English support and tax-free are shown only where we've confirmed them. Many Kappabashi shops do offer tax-free — ask at the register (passport required).
Hashitou has sold chopsticks and nothing else since 1910. The disposable pairs are cut from Japanese cedar and hinoki cypress; the bare-wood ones run to plum and cherry; the lacquered ones are bought straight from the districts that make them. Almost everything on the shelves grew in Japan.
Because you can pick the pairs up and set one timber or finish against another, it is an easy shop to decide in, whether you want a gift or a single pair for yourself. The shop also keeps a VR tour of its floor online, so you can look along the shelves before you come.
